Lybradyn Awarded Phase I SBIR Grant From National Institutes of Health
September 2, 2005. Oak Brook, Illinois. Lybradyn, Inc. a privately held biotechnology company, today announced that the company has been awarded a Phase I SBIR grant from the National Institutes of Health. The grant was awarded to develop new organophosphorous hydrolases (OPH’s) for the biocatalytic degradation of chemical warfare agents and pesticides. “The SBIR award by the NIH enables Lybradyn to further advance an ongoing program in commercialization of OPH enzymes. New enzymes with enhanced performance characteristics are needed to manage the large number of different organophosphorous compounds currently used or stockpiled throughout the world. Lybradyn’s data mining, cloning and expression strategy is a key to identifying and developing these new enzymes.” Stated John Aikens, Vice President at Lybradyn.
