Solid Phase Fermentor

A device under development that incorporates the synthetic media fabricated to a spooled reel. The ferementor is designed to be used essentially as a high surface area small footprint surface for culturing cells in much the same manner as cell culture systems or petri dishes.

Advantages:

• ease of set up
• inoculation and harvesting
• no need for additional equipment other than a conventional laboratory incubator
• no need for specially trained personnel
• no up front capital equipment costs

Communal Fermentor

The system is under development and is available for research and prototype testing. The device that is designed to cultivate multiple organisms simultaneously in the same media environment while maintaining physical separation. The concept behind the technology is to induce communication between organisms through chemical (quorum sensing) pathways. The result is to create new cultivation methods for expression of biosynthetic pathways to produce new proteins and small molecule natural products. In addition the system can be used with previously known organisms combined to produce new products or organisms can be combined to culture organisms that have resisted culturing by conventional fermentation.
